My current obsession

Originally uploaded by sf2london.

Modernist public housing projects ("council estates" or "social housing" over here) are scattered throughout London. Their presence is a good indicator that any given area was pretty much flattened during the Blitz. Maps are generally posted at key public entrances, and vary in design according to the responsible management authority (usually either the local council or a housing trust). The maps are little bits of visual ephemera that I pass regularly, so I thought I would document them and see if anything emerges...

Hi, Mark:

I'll be honest and say I haven't been to your blog for a long time, and then I'll be honest and say that I visited it today because I've just turned a friend (and life's worker) on to your handsome and eloquent blog. Scrolling down a bit, I found this post--and want to say I'm delighted that, from my perspective, you're dipping back into The Love of Maps again! Maybe it doesn't feel that way to you, hee hee.

How goes your working life? If you care to let me know, I'd love to hear a few words.

I think of you often and recall our too-short time with you in London last year.

Be well, my friend, and do good--

T.
